Bambounou // Full of Feelings EP

19 Mar

bambounou - full of feelings ep

“Full Of Feelings” is released only 4 months after “Orbiting”. A clear sign for unrestrained creativity and joy. While the A-Side track “Filled”, an eclectic monster, transitions perfectly from the sound of “Orbiting”, “Brim” merges Chicago House and Minimal Techno, before the home listening etude “Boarder” closes the EP with yet another facet of the broad musical spectrum of pretty boy and young french genius Bambounou(Monkeytown Records, 2013) Beatport here.

Marcel Dettmann // Linux / Ellipse

3 Jan

Marcel Dettmann

HALF-TIME !!! The idea behind the label name is quite simple. After 50 single releases the label will not be continued and instead look back on a series of unique electronic dance music. With catalog number 25 the first half is now completed. As a very special guest Marcel Dettmann returns to 50 Weapons for a celebration of classic techno. Similar to his sold out “Deluge / Duel” single from December 2011, Marcel Dettmann affirms his love of purified, pumping techno. (Modeselektor SC, 2013) Out January 11 on 50 Weapons!

Dark Sky // Myriam EP

25 Nov

Although London bass trio Dark Sky‘s discography is still relatively short, they have proven adept with a varied sonic palette, one that includes serene melodies, cut-up R&B snippets, thundering organic drums, and thick bass sounds underpinning the entire operation. Their “Radius EP” released in Summer 2011 became one of the best sold and most sought after singles from the continuously growing 50 Weapons catalog.A year later it’s time for a strong follow up! The excellent “Myriam EP” is certainly living up to the high expectations. Garage rhythms, Clonkstep, Post-UK Funky, techy House references and even nods to Electro all united  in 4 smashing club tunes are a blazing example for the ongoing Bass evolution. (Modeselektor SC, 2012)

Bambounou // Cobe EP

5 Aug

Tigers didn’t raise him but he bears all the mysteries of the wild world inside of him. Unknown just a few months ago, he appeared just like a storm in the desert. His naivety is not dry. He creates his music compulsively and sincerely. His beats can make an oasis appear in the middle of the Sahara. This shaman has seduced the electro jungle, from Sinden to Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team and Modeselektor. He drops tracks like spells and captivates everyone. Bambounou’s debut album is scheduled for end of the year. (50 Weapons, 2012)

A Made Up Sound // Malfunctions

3 Jul

Dutch maverick Dave Huismans may be best known for his heartfelt and boundary pushing bass as 2562, but his longest-going project A Made Up Sound has been gaining just as much momentum lately with its oddball yet funk-fueled take on techno.

The Malfunctions EP presents two wildly different sides to the same story, evoking yearning, nearly broken machines struggling to keep time. It’s yet another incredibly unique and equally functional demonstration of how developed techno should sound in 2012! (Modeselektor SC, 2012)

Modeselektion Vol. 02

1 Jul

The monkey on the cover says it all. Compared to the rather cute and peaceful cover of Modeselektion Vol. 01, this time it’s all a bit different. The music on Modeselektion Vol. 02 explores darker, more experimental grounds, certainly still with one eye focused on the trademark Modeselektor party-factor. Featuring unreleased exclusive tracks by Monolake, Prefuse 73, Mouse on Mars, Clark, Lazer Sword, Martyn, Siriusmo, Addison Groove, Egyptrixx, Anstam, Diamond Version (a new project by raster-noton’s Byetone and Alva Noto), Phon.o, Bambounou and many more, Modeselektion Vol. 02 again unites some of the best names of electronic music scene. (MS SC, 2012)

Siriusmo // Doctor Beak’s Rantanplant

22 Mar

In the past months Siriusmo has locked himself into the studio to work on a new album. No gigs, no releases. Silence.“Doctor Beak’s Rantanplant” is meant to shorten the waiting time with some pleasurable Siriusmo entertainment. The 3 tracks here give you a hint on what to expect from the yet untitled next album planned for end of the year. (MS SC, 2012)

Addison Groove // Transistor Rhythm

20 Jan

Addison Groove (aka Antony Williams) started life under a different pseudonym altogether. Recording as Headhunter, with an LP and 12” releases on the influential Tempa label stretching back to 2007, he achieved legendary status within the dubstep scene… …This work looked set to continue until 2010 when, seemingly out of nowhere, he crafted one of the biggest bass music tracks of the decade, ‘Footcrab’, under the new name of Addison Groove.

“Transistor Rhythm”, Addison Groove’s debut album, is a rare example of a release where the description “much anticipated” is not just a fantasy of some PR agent. The expectations are high, but we are convinced nobody is gonna be disappointed. Hear for yourself! (Modeselektor SC, 2012)

Mouse on Mars // Parastrophics

4 Jan

Mouse On Mars’ triumphant return comes in the shape of Parastrophics, a life-affirming and constantly surprising album which is crammed with ideas, exuberance and sheer kinetic energy. It’s like listening to the entire history of pop music – distilled, refined and crystallized into a string of compulsive new shapes, full of glitter, intrigue and addictive detail. Atomised fragments from two lifetimes of listening flare and fade, tiny scraps of memory shrapnel hover, tantalizing and insubstantial, before being whisked away by the next impatient idea.
But despite all that restless curiosity, Parastrophics also demonstrates a peerless command of pace. Whereas some previous Mouse On Mars releases have bordered on the frenetic, their latest displays a subtle but persuasive sense of control. Even when tempos climb, 303s squirm and kick / snare patterns snap to brisk attention, there’s an elegance to the way that each element slips in and out of the mix which speaks, whisper it, of maturity. Parastrophics is as a playful as ever, but it’s never throwaway. The closing track „Seaqz“ is the perfect illustration, a frenetic romp which is perfectly held in check by gracefully undulating melodies; it brings into focus the beguiling sense of confidence that suffuses the whole record. All of which is a roundabout way of saying that, after six years away, Mouse On Mars have come back with their best record yet. (SC 2012)

14 Sep

Modeselektor‘s new album – Monkeytown – out Sep 30th on Monkeytown Records! Here’s a little text from the guys:

Monkeytown is our third album. It is the first album that almost drove us crazy. Well, when we really think about it, every album almost drove us crazy…
It is the first Modeselektor album that we produced 100% together in the studio and in one session over the course of ten weeks. We thank all of the participating artists, our families and our friends.

Modeselektor – Monkey Flip

17 Mar

Invited by Goethe Institut Kenya in the summer of 2010 Modeselektor traveled to Nairobi to participate in an exceptional project called BLNRB. One of the results is the track „Monkey Flip“, recorded in one go in a spontaneous recording session at a hotel room in Nairobi, featuring a true legend of Kenyas hip hop scene, MC Abbas, accompanied by the first lady of East-African Hip Hop Nazizi, one of the most successful East-African singers. And lucky as we are, we got Boys Noize to do a remix that speaks for itself ..! – Modeselektor
