dirtybird Players (Part 1)

27 Feb

DBP_parts_3.0

Introducing the dirtybird players compilation, the follow-up to last years “Hatched” comp which was picked as the compilation of the year in DJ mag.  It’s 14 original tracks split into two releases and featuring up-and-comers and old schoolers on the label. The musical direction of dirtybird is always evolving but that sense of good times is always there in the background, keeping you smiling and dancing in your house parties, giant clubs and car stereos around the world.

Part one of the players comp is totally stacked with killer trax from veteran db artists Justin Martin & Ardalan, Kill Frenzy & Nick Monaco,  Munnibrotherz, and J. Phlip.  In addition some newer acts like Shadow Child, Nick Olivetti, & Supatrol all deliver monster tunes I really love as well.

As usual the music speaks for itself so we will spare you the 2 page blurb.

Enjoy the tunes!

Justin Martin // Ghettos & Gardens Remixes Vol. 2

2 Dec

ghetto remixes 2

Justin Martin‘s ghetto garden has produced another hefty harvest: a second remix volume from his widely-acclaimed “Ghettos & Gardens” with refixes of all shapes and sizes from some of Justin’s favorite producers and best mates. Claude VonStroke takes the vocals of the title track and crafts them into an acid bomb of nuclear proportions, while Eats Everything’s Ruff Stuff reruff is a big, Bristolian bully: properly bass-heavy. Leroy Peppers and Shadow Child both bring a 90s DnB vibe to the table; Pepper’s remix of Don’t Go is crispy and featherlight, while Shadow Child blasts Riding Spaceships through a galaxy of space beats, breaks, and builds. A double-stack of Gurner goodness: Tanner Ross strips the croonin’ tune down to a lonely snap and a synth, while Willis Haltom and LOPAZZ choose to give it a warehouse party treatment with synth stabs, Roland rumbles, and a hefty acid attitude. To round out the release, Kill Frenzy adds some of his signature twerked-out bass to Butterflies while Pezzner delivers a thumping, tribal beast of a Molokini remix, replete with cavernous layers of percussion and singing sirens. (dirtybird SC, 2012)

Shadow Child // 23 EP

28 Nov

The South Coast of the UK has bred another 2 successful names in underground music who have joined forces to create a home for a new wave of house, bass and forward thinking creations.. Food.

The label launches with Shadow Child’s own 23 EP, 4 slices of peaktime house led by the infectious title track ‘23’, a collaboration with Tymer. Solo tracks ‘Sensible Haircut’ and ‘The Verdict pt2’ take things deeper with a more edgy sound and a rather smashing remix from label partners Kry Wolf to boot. (Shadow Child SC, 2012)

Below our my picks, tune in to full ep here. Out on Food Music Dec 12, 2012!

Tom Flynn & Shadow Child // Phil Collins EP

Looking forward to these bassy gems from Tom Flynn & Shadow ChildOn the A side is “Drive Hero”. Built around solid, straight up percussion, strong grooving bassline and layered with a bright synth that evolves throughout the record. On the flip, further dance floor damage is issued with “Giant Woo”. With its DnB inspired atmospheric drops, gorgeous pads and deep sub, this addictive and spine-tingling cut is set to fid favour with all. Available from November 5th.” (Shadow Child SC, 2012)

BBQ Trax

17 Aug

Before dirtybird was a record label it started as a San Francisco barbecue party based on sunshine, great music and carne asada. Friends playing good music out in the park for anyone who would show up. In celebration of the energy and spirit of the BBQ party we bring you this 4 track release with that summery open air vibe.

Everyone on the EP is making their 2nd or 3rd appearance on the label. Los Angeles based Justin Jay returns with “Femme Fatale” a fantastic sounding 70s inspired funk-house jam. Nick Monaco also returns, continuing his quirky ideas with the thematic and amusing “Don’t Hate, Create!”. A1 Bassline is back with the ever smooth and melodic 808 boomer called “Daft”. And lastly, we have the highly anticipated return of Shadow Child with “Comb Over” which he co-produced with long time friend of the label, James Talk.

We hope you enjoy and get to try these tracks somewhere outdoors this summer with some BBQ and beers.

Shadow Child EP

31 Mar

Just having wrapped up the epic HATCHED compilation we roll right into the first original EP of the year. It seems like we’ve been blessed because Shadow Child has delivered an incredibly strong debut release. “String Thing” was given to me with support by Eats Everything and I’ve already seen it completely rip up several rooms on tour last month.

I thought that was going to be the A-side killer and then “Rustic Chip” came in which i think could possibly be even better. The production style is kind of like old school Solid Groove meets drum n bass and i’m really digging this record. Super-fat, well-mixed sounds put in all the right places, this stuff really works. (VonStroke SC, 2012)
