23 Jul

Pretty Ill EP

It is upon the time for Alfred Heinrichs and Carlo Ruetz to adapt upon their first astonishing collaboration and present to you their second breathtaking piece of heart work… …Fans of their first analog EP will be pleased to hear that both producers once again implemented the pure minimal-techno sound into their creation. For all vinyl rockers the sound will be preserved on a truly unique piece of black gold for the first weeks that will be limited and arise such an enthusiasm in the bodies of those lucky enough to catch its melody that it will leave no feet resting. Fans and friends can look forward to a magnificent acoustical and visual experience. (subdub, 2013) Beatport here. And for you vinyl heads, here.

Viers // 0002 / Your Body

9 Jul

viers church

Following on from Rumah’s largely acclaimed Stutter/Murmur EP, which received support from the likes of Skream, Dusky, Sei A & More. South London Party starters Church are back with another offering from new blood Viers. The A Side reflects Viers deep and atmospheric approach to his productions, with subtle elements and a weighty sub pulsating throughout the track, it’s the perfect tool to hype up an audience. The catchy hook and hefty 4/4 beat of the flip side Your Body is also sure to receive a lot of attention from all the right sources landing somewhere in between House & Techno territory. Apes & Seb Wildblood’s mix of 0002 offers a more nostalgic take on the track with a heavy focus towards the dance floor, yet managing to retain a strong sense of atmosphere throughout . Squarehead offers up a lighter hearted cut of Your Body, his House & Garage influence track is carried by a stomping baseline and ravey synth lines. The Release furthermore cements Church’s reputation as an imprint and goes some way into moulding something of a signature sound. (Church BP, 2013) Beatport here.

GoldFFinch // The Volume EP

8 Jul

goldffinch volume ep

GoldFFinch are back….back on Saigon Recordings…..back to the dancefloor. POW! 4 new tracks on an EP entitled ‘The Volume’, guess what the first track is called… yes, we don’t do clever EP names. The lead track is smashing up the airwaves/dancefloors, we do sincerely hope that no injuries have occurred due to any aggro-dance moves (we’re not liable). Support across the board from the likes of Paleman, Loefah, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B – this supreme Belgian duo are going from strength to strength, fresh from their appearance on the US based Dirtybird label. GoldFFinch/Saigon fully endorse the use of Peacock related imagery. (Surus, 2013) Buy it here. Beatport here.

Ramon Tapia // Intense

Ramon Tapia Intense

Ramon Tapia – the product of a Dutch mother, Chilean father and brought up on a diet of Belgian Techno – is the latest superstar to join the I’m A House Gangster ranks. The mix of cultures shaped Ramon’s sound and his music has been snapped up by some of the finest record labels around – Remote Area, Intacto, Gem, Great Stuff, Turbo and many more. He has also established his own labels Say What? Recordings and Aella Music and can also list remixes of Paul Weller, Armand Van Helden, Marc Romboy and DJ Sneak, among others, in his discography. His Gangstercast from Febrary 2013 set the scene for what was to follow on the three track ‘Intense’ release. Deep, driving, throbbing, house music with impossibly fat baselines and shuffling, jacking beats that adds a Chicago-shaped twist to Ramon’s already eclectic influences. As the title says it’s intense – real House Gangster’s can’t pass this by!

Rumah // Stutter

26 Apr

rumah stutter

Although it has only one release to its name – Happa’s Beat Of The Drum – London club night turned record label Church is looking to be an imprint to keep close tabs on, especially on the strength of this second EP, from young London producer Rumah. Although his debut from last year demonstrated an atmospheric, syncopated style of bass music, “Stutter” shows a marked progression into swung techno styles, with a weighty track full of concrete rhythms and glassy synths; “Murmur” is similarly powerful, throwing acid flecks and sunken vocals into the mix. Meanwhile, Apes & Seb Wildblood offer their own take on “Stutter”, tempering some of the original’s more ferocious attributes with some subtle dub techno elements, while James Fox refixes “Murmur” into a slinky, mid-tempo house groover, whose swelling synths offer something considerably deeper. (Juno, 2013) Grab it here.

South London Ordnance // Revolver

31 Mar

South London Ordnance - Revolver

2012 was without doubt the breakthrough year for South London Ordnance. In the space of twelve months the 23 year old artist put out three separate 12”s alongside a five track EP, which garnered support from Jamie XX, Scuba, Benji B, Mary Ann Hobbes, Mosca, Claude Vonstroke, Richie Hawtin and more. His jungle-advised, finely honed productions also rightly earned him notable mention in several annual end of year roundups including DJ Mag’s Best of British 2012, XLR8R’s 4th Best New Act of 2012 (alongside Disclosure and Karenn), and Time Out UK’s DJs to Watch in 2013. With this debut outing on Hotflush Recordings scheduled for March, 2013 is set to be yet another strong year for the young producer. (Hotflush SC, 2013)

Tom Demac and Glimpse // Guns & Posers EP

15 Mar

guns n posers tom demac

Tom Demac and Glimpse push out all the stops with this spectacular EP that incorporates heavy analogue drums and detuned synths to create a huge impact during any set. The first track ‘Guns N’ Posers’ is a weighty track that delivers a warm, upfront record that will certainly leave an impression. The lead is a unique sounding synth that then injects a killer hook to add to the commanding overdriven drums. On the flip-side, ‘Beadie Eye’ keeps the same vibe as the A-side and churns out a weighty, mean sounding synth to compliment the swung, chunky drum sounds at hand. (Drumcode, 2013) Grab it here!

Borderline // Robots Over Madrid

14 Mar

Borderline Personality Disorder

Twin Turbo diagnoses you with borderline personality disorder with “Robots Over Madrid”, the latest from noted Spaniards Borderline. Featuring a remix by In Flagranti.

Following the 2011 Turbo release of “Stay,” a chart favorite of Tiga, Roman Fluegel, Ivan Smagghe, and Rebolledo, Borderline return with “Make Me Crazy,” a departure from the established Twin Turbo sound, in that it does not sound like the aural equivalent of being beaten into submission with a brick of E.

The A-side finds the Spanish duo riding a classy, hypnotic funk groove that gradually reveals darker edges as it progresses, combining strains of disco, house and techno into a seamless, stronger whole. B-side “Halloween” amps up the stakes with a creepy vocal sample, pulsing arpeggiated baseline, and massive early buildup, without ever venturing all the way into the “banger” darkside.

For the remix, we made a suitable offer to Swiss-based Codek disco vets In Flagranti, who dim the lights and accentuate the more sinister aspects of the original, adding ominous robo-atmospherics and a brooding minor-key baseline.

Twin Turbo – more than stadium bangers, more than peak-time bombs, more than you could ever know.
