Claude VonStroke – Can’t Wait / The Clapping Track
6 AugThe artwork for Claude VonStroke’s upcoming 3rd album, “Urban Animal” best summarizes the theme of this full length outing from the dirtybird chief. A collection of architectural photography in disrepair from Detroit and The Midwest were chopped up and reconstructed into the shapes of 3 amazing animal portraits, a lion, a lizard, and a bird.
In the same way, Claude has taken sounds and snippets of his busy and sometimes frantic life and created an album from these simple and complex elements. Beauty and intrigue created from smaller pieces of chaos and adversity.
The introductory single, “Cant Wait,” is reminiscent of some of VonStroke’s deeper classics while also pushing further into new territory. A sense of restraint and release play games throughout this melancholy tune with a fat bassline locking down the groove. “Can’t Wait” has fleeting moments of euphoria that are both surprising and uplifting especially for a summer open air crowd.
“The Clapping Track” then shows us the fun side of VonStroke where he cuts apart 16 claps and then brings them back together – building up to a standing ovation as a resonate organ sounds. This house anthem has already been destroying the Dirtybird Ibiza residency and summer festival circuit as well.
Both tracks are great for the club and leave us wondering what other happy surprises have been constructed out of the infinite imperfect pieces inside Claude VonStroke’s head.

George Morel – Let’s Groove (Claptone Remix)
9 JulGeorge Morel broke new ground with his iconic track “Let’s Groove” – defining a genre and a moment with his sound – a feat achieved by only a precious few. That was in 1992 – when techno & house was the new kid on the block. Now, 21 (!) years later we revisit this colossal track and fit it with some remixes, including one from the man himself. Tom Trago, Claptone, Coyu and DJ T. and PBR Streetgang all take on the dinosaur and give it a new breath of life in 2013. The results are amazing, and even more so when we reflect on all that came between. An entire lifetime of music and celebration lead up to this point, and will continue long after – after all, it is the spirit of the music which never really dies. (Claptone SC, 2013)
Viers // 0002 / Your Body
9 JulFollowing on from Rumah’s largely acclaimed Stutter/Murmur EP, which received support from the likes of Skream, Dusky, Sei A & More. South London Party starters Church are back with another offering from new blood Viers. The A Side reflects Viers deep and atmospheric approach to his productions, with subtle elements and a weighty sub pulsating throughout the track, it’s the perfect tool to hype up an audience. The catchy hook and hefty 4/4 beat of the flip side Your Body is also sure to receive a lot of attention from all the right sources landing somewhere in between House & Techno territory. Apes & Seb Wildblood’s mix of 0002 offers a more nostalgic take on the track with a heavy focus towards the dance floor, yet managing to retain a strong sense of atmosphere throughout . Squarehead offers up a lighter hearted cut of Your Body, his House & Garage influence track is carried by a stomping baseline and ravey synth lines. The Release furthermore cements Church’s reputation as an imprint and goes some way into moulding something of a signature sound. (Church BP, 2013) Beatport here.
GoldFFinch // The Volume EP
8 JulGoldFFinch are back….back on Saigon Recordings…..back to the dancefloor. POW! 4 new tracks on an EP entitled ‘The Volume’, guess what the first track is called… yes, we don’t do clever EP names. The lead track is smashing up the airwaves/dancefloors, we do sincerely hope that no injuries have occurred due to any aggro-dance moves (we’re not liable). Support across the board from the likes of Paleman, Loefah, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B – this supreme Belgian duo are going from strength to strength, fresh from their appearance on the US based Dirtybird label. GoldFFinch/Saigon fully endorse the use of Peacock related imagery. (Surus, 2013) Buy it here. Beatport here.
