Claude VonStroke – Can’t Wait / The Clapping Track

6 Aug

Claude VonStroke - Can't Wait : The Clapping Track

The artwork for Claude VonStroke’s upcoming 3rd album, “Urban Animal” best summarizes the theme of this full length outing from the dirtybird chief. A collection of architectural photography in disrepair from Detroit and The Midwest were chopped up and reconstructed into the shapes of 3 amazing animal portraits, a lion, a lizard, and a bird.

In the same way, Claude has taken sounds and snippets of his busy and sometimes frantic life and created an album from these simple and complex elements. Beauty and intrigue created from smaller pieces of chaos and adversity.

The introductory single, “Cant Wait,” is reminiscent of some of VonStroke’s deeper classics while also pushing further into new territory. A sense of restraint and release play games throughout this melancholy tune with a fat bassline locking down the groove. “Can’t Wait” has fleeting moments of euphoria that are both surprising and uplifting especially for a summer open air crowd.

“The Clapping Track” then shows us the fun side of VonStroke where he cuts apart 16 claps and then brings them back together – building up to a standing ovation as a resonate organ sounds. This house anthem has already been destroying the Dirtybird Ibiza residency and summer festival circuit as well.

Both tracks are great for the club and leave us wondering what other happy surprises have been constructed out of the infinite imperfect pieces inside Claude VonStroke’s head.

George Morel – Let’s Groove (Claptone Remix)

George Morel - Let's Groove (Claptone Remix)

George Morel broke new ground with his iconic track “Let’s Groove” – defining a genre and a moment with his sound – a feat achieved by only a precious few. That was in 1992 – when techno & house was the new kid on the block. Now, 21 (!) years later we revisit this colossal track and fit it with some remixes, including one from the man himself.

Tom Trago, Claptone, Coyu and DJ T. and PBR Streetgang all take on the dinosaur and give it a new breath of life in 2013. The results are amazing, and even more so when we reflect on all that came between. An entire lifetime of music and celebration lead up to this point, and will continue long after – after all, it is the spirit of the music which never really dies. (Claptone SC, 2013)

Viers // 0002 / Your Body

9 Jul

viers church

Following on from Rumah’s largely acclaimed Stutter/Murmur EP, which received support from the likes of Skream, Dusky, Sei A & More. South London Party starters Church are back with another offering from new blood Viers. The A Side reflects Viers deep and atmospheric approach to his productions, with subtle elements and a weighty sub pulsating throughout the track, it’s the perfect tool to hype up an audience. The catchy hook and hefty 4/4 beat of the flip side Your Body is also sure to receive a lot of attention from all the right sources landing somewhere in between House & Techno territory. Apes & Seb Wildblood’s mix of 0002 offers a more nostalgic take on the track with a heavy focus towards the dance floor, yet managing to retain a strong sense of atmosphere throughout . Squarehead offers up a lighter hearted cut of Your Body, his House & Garage influence track is carried by a stomping baseline and ravey synth lines. The Release furthermore cements Church’s reputation as an imprint and goes some way into moulding something of a signature sound. (Church BP, 2013) Beatport here.

GoldFFinch // The Volume EP

8 Jul

goldffinch volume ep

GoldFFinch are back….back on Saigon Recordings…..back to the dancefloor. POW! 4 new tracks on an EP entitled ‘The Volume’, guess what the first track is called… yes, we don’t do clever EP names. The lead track is smashing up the airwaves/dancefloors, we do sincerely hope that no injuries have occurred due to any aggro-dance moves (we’re not liable). Support across the board from the likes of Paleman, Loefah, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B – this supreme Belgian duo are going from strength to strength, fresh from their appearance on the US based Dirtybird label. GoldFFinch/Saigon fully endorse the use of Peacock related imagery. (Surus, 2013) Buy it here. Beatport here.

Hector Moralez // I’m a House Brand

8 Jul

Hector Moralez

I’m A House Gangster‘s sixth release comes from Hector Moralez, who say’s it is an EP created with one man in mind: “This EP was especially made for Sneak. I wanted to come correct, and make something dope… That’s Hard!”

The three tracks, introduced by Hector:o
“Freakin’ Molly” – For one, I like Molly. This track was made right before I went to the States for a visit. I was inspired by hip hop, wanted something dirty for the dance floors, got the concept after finding a hilarious video from A$AP & Danny Brown, and sampled the vocals to make the track. I watched these videos, and kept laughing for days, then I made the track with dancefloor freaks in mind. I wanted something HARD with a sense of humour! Just listen to the lyrics in the track, this shit is funny!

“Brand New” – was made right after coming home from the States, and I was refreshed from the visit and itching to get back in the studio, this was the outcome!

“Acid By Numbers” – was made right before WMC Miami 2013 – I produced this track specifically for the “I’m A House Gangster” WMC Party!

Rising from Oakland, California, Hector Moralez has paid his dues by working tirelessly from the bottom up. Now in demand at clubs and events throughout the world, he is renowned for his intelligent and soul awakening house music. His music has been found on many stellar labels including: Music For Freaks, Nightshift, Detour, Vista, Brique Rouge, Magnetic, Apollonia, Pacha Recordings, Doubledown, Lowdown Music, and Robsoul. Now based in Paris, France – a move that made his latest collaboration with longtime collaborator Chris Carrier, possible. The duo released their debut album “Lotus S7ven” on the hyped French imprint Apollonia. This LP spawned a new (live) show, a first for Hector – pushing boundaries, creating a new sound, and taking his career to the next level. Hector also manages his own distinguished underground labels, Minority Music and The Factory.

A bonafide House Gangster from the start, Hector is well placed to give his take on how the movement has developed: It started out small and keeps on growing and growing! It’s a way to support the people behind the brand, and show some love. We’re all part of this dance music community and supporting each other, is the only way to keep it really alive. House is a minority in the big picture of EDM, Dance Music, whatever you wanna call it, so I think the HG sound is something you don’t have to think about, it’s always gonna be HOUSE. And hopefully the wide range of audiences will take the chance and see whats up with the soul and vibe that makes House Music one of the BEST.”
